Heckler & Koch 53 5.56mm carbine

This item is HIRE ONLY for use by a recognised Film, TV, Commercials or Theatre production company.

Overview

The Heckler & Koch 53 is a compact version of the HK33K (K- in German, kurz – “short”).

Chambered in 5.56mm, it has a short, 211mm barrel, a forearm derived from the MP5 submachine gun and a telescopic shoulder stock.  Later models had a 4 prong flash hider.

Like the AKSU, the H&K 53 bridges the gap between pistol calibre (typically 9 x 19mm) sub-machine guns and assault rifles by combining the quick handling qualities of a compact weapon with the harder hitting power of the assault rifle 5.56mm calibre.

Helpful Info

Regarding dates and period correctness, the H&K 53 was first made in the mid 70’s, it was produced by H+K in Europe, it is still in production for export.

Foxtrot example shown is an H&K 53, chambered in 5.56mm, it has a telescoping stock, black polymer furniture  and the metal parts are in a military phosphate finish.

Film Set Notes

The combination of a rifle calibre cartridge with a short barrel means there is a significant flash at the muzzle.
