Overview

The Mini-14 is a small lightweight semi-auto carbine manufactured by the US firearms company Sturm Ruger of Bridgeport, Connecticut.

Tthe Mini-14 was designed by L James Sullivan and William B Ruger and developed between 1967 and 1973.

The design is based on the M1 Garand rifle and derived from the 7.62 NATO M14 rifle. Being chambered in the smaller 5.56mm cartridge and a scaled down version of it’s big brother, hence its name, the Mini-14.

The rifle is available in stainless or blued finish, has an 18 inch barrel and has either a wood or synthetic polymer stock.

Most Mini-14’s have a classic sporter appearance, in contrast to comparable auto-loading rifles such as the military looking AK-47 and M16 rifles.
